What Colour For Advertising?

Myself & a colleague have been debating this for a few days. What colour should be used to attract the most attention for our business?

ALL BLACK or GOLD with BLACK roof.

    Some important info:

The company Logo is mainly yellow/gold. The logo is circular. A gold car would require black circular backgrounds to put the logos onto the doors and bonnet. This method has been used before on signage and works well. Obviously, a black car would require no such circular backing. The car is a classic Austin Mini 1990. There is no intention of keeping the Mini original, as it is a moving advert, for the business, which is not the motor trade, or related.

Perhaps motoring is not the best forum for this question, but most of my posts are here and I trust the opinions of the guys and girls here than in other boards forums. Thanks.

What's the pain scheme being fitted to?

Gold/black. Contrast is better to attract attention.

Btw, pls don't bump the thread. If it's interesting enough it will survive on its own.

Sorry. Only bumped, because I had started the thread just before midnight and didn't think it got many views. I will let it run its course naturally. Looks like Gold with Black roof is the colour scheme of preference.

if your logo is gold go with black with gold roof

get a paint match for the gold in the logo

The logo actually has a gradient going through it, so it's more of an image, than a plain colour logo. A paint match would not be possible. Black with Gold roof was ruled out early on, because there will be a big Logo on the roof, meaning most of the roof would be black anyway, unless we opted for a black Logo, which wouldn't do the same job for us. Either way, the roof must be black.

I would go with black all over then but would steer away from gold text on black if you are putting website ph numbers etc on it along with the logos

Why do you suggest steering away from Gold text on a black vehicle?

Keep in mind, I am not asking what would look better, I am asking what would stand out the most. Obviously style is important, otherwise I would be going for pink tyres ;)

The important part (for me atleast) is getting the car seen. Once seen, the advertising needs to be tasteful.

I am personally leaning toward the Gold, because I know Gold will be seen before Black, even though I prefer the look of a black car, over a gold one. My colleague wants black, but I think he is ignoring the fact that black will not be seen as much as gold, even though black (in both our opinions) would "look" better.

I am pleased with the response so far and tried my very best not to sway the decision in either direction. Looks like the colour will be gold, but I want to see the final balance.

So here are the ideas: The first one is the gold colour selected for the car. Obviously, it's not the same car, but it's just to give a conceptual idea. The Mini has chrome bumpers and handles as it is.

    goldcar.jpg

The All black option. Colleague suggested wrapping the chrome parts in gold to look something like the image below.

If only I had learned to use photoshop :(

While I do like the mirror Gold, I don't really want to get the car wrapped. I don't think it's durable enough. And I know the Gold I selected is a little on the bling side, I think the chrome Gold wrap is over the top for what I want.

Get the lads who are doing the graphic job for you to do drawings of the two different options

If it were me OP I'd use something with more surface area than a mini........not saying it has to be a can or something less eye catching but it doesn't give you much space to work with

    Thankfully I have a good imagination :)

I know what the finished item would look like.

I did consider other options, but I chose the mini, because I know that it will stand out more than most bigger cars, or vans. It's because it's small and quirky that I think people will look at it, hence my preference for a colour that will stand out. I would post up a sample I drew out, but that may be seen as advertising, so I can't do that. I don't need a lot of surface space.

I considered a Honda CRV, because I was considering getting one for personal use anyway. It will be a private vehicle, with company advertising on it.

Plus, road tax at €200 per year and cheap insurance....it all makes sense to me. I'm already paying through the arse with my 2L 1997 petrol sports coupe.

I was considering a Piaggio Ape, but decided that it would make more sense to be able to bring a couple of promotional staff out to a location.

So last week the mini was still in the middle of prepping and looked like

    IMG_0012.jpg

I then had to confirm the colour. Below was some inspiration.

    IMG_0007.jpg

At the end of the week, I was dropping up a couple of bits and this is how it was looking.

    IMG_0547.jpg

I'm pretty pleased with the colour. Suits the purpose and will stand out. The car is now done at the body shop and will be dropped into a mini specialist place is Santry, Dublin on Monday to have the back brakes sorted, a new stage 1 kit exhaust (inluding upgraded carb and air intake) and the reverse light switch is to be sorted too. NCT is on Wednesday. I haven't seen it finished and won't see it until i'm collecting from Santry tomorrow evening, or Tuesday.

Is it wrong to suggest that I don't think the mini looks very, err, businesslike? Not trying to be nasty, it just looks amateur hour to me, tbh... I suppose it depends on the business. Just hope you're not getting too caught up in "what colour T-shirt shall we wear" syndrome. Lots of small businesses do..

What would be "business like"? What is "amateur hour" about the colour of a car? Without clarification, your comments aren't constructive, or in any way helpful. I can't really go into details without risking being accused of advertising here. I had planned to have the car kitted out with advertising, which would make more sense, although I could not post that here anyway. TBH, there have been so many delays and things that I had to have fixed/replaced, I will likely be selling the car once I get her through the Nct.

I just wonder when I see so much effort going into picking colours for a car for a business and then it turns out a bit naff and not very eyecatching - unless the idea was to show the car being "done-up" and then announce it is going to be for sale via Boards(which is quite businesslike). If you want a hug and discuss colours a bit more, I'm not really your man, but to me, it doesn't look businesslike- simple as.

I see. You think i'm trying to drum up interest for a sale. If that had any truth, i would have asked what would be the best "original" classic mini colours to go for, so it's not very business like if I simply wanted to sell. And I think the colour looks great, not naff, but one colour wouldn't suit everyone would it? I wont be announcing any sale via boards. That's what adverts is for, but i think adverts is rubbish, so i wouldn't post anything for sale there. You can keep your hugs and cynical mind, but thanks for pointing out where you "think" I was coming from. The main reason I would be selling is simply because it took too long to finish the car and I have missed a critical advertising period for the business I am in. There are easier ways to make money than in restoring Minis.

I was looking fro opionions at the start. After getting those opinions, I chose the Gold/Black. When I posted the finished product, I wasn't looking for opinions, I was just showing the finished result, as most people voted for it. But thanks anyway.
