I would imagine its an anti fraud measure.

the inspectors check up on the lads doing the testing by selecting a random sample of cars to retest and make sure that there is nothing like what was on prime time going on

yes as you have only provisionally passed the test for 48 hours after getting your cert

ive never heard of it happening to be honest. but the AA are constantly monitoring us. what happens is you test a car, then you finalise the result and an AA van appears out of nowhere and does a full recheck on the car. you don't know when they will arrive (date, day or time) and by then its too late to put in a fault that you may have 'overlooked'. so the moral of the story is, just test the car properly and you have nothing to worry about. but I do think its sneaky the way they just arrive in the yard straight after the result has been finalised and are able to block the cert printing via wifi.

what happens if the car owner has a plane to catch??

or is it a 'plant' car driven by an AA employee??

Is it not the only way to properly check up though? Ive been in a few jobs at this stage where audits and standards inspections are known about weeks in advance. Everything is cleaned and sorted in the run up to the day then once the inspection is done its all back to normal till the next one.completely pointless.

yeah customer can refuse and its no problem but ive never seen one refuse. in fact, most customers seem delighted that some guy in an AA uniform is going to do another free inspection on their car. also an AA inspector could pull you up on something that they feel was failed incorrectly. it probably is the only proper way to go about checking standards, but it takes a lot of the benefit of the doubt for the customer away. say something is 50/50, like the amount of wear in an inner tie rod, in the back of your mind, you are thinking if I let this go and get stopped for reinspection, then it looks like I missed it.
