Couldn't find any threads that were already started about todays race.

Very well organised event, huge thanks to Bohermeen CC!

Very deserved win by young Campbell who rode a fine race in the A3/junior event. One of the few lads that took his turn every time in the break, and capitalised on the lull in the bunch with a Galway Bay rider, when the poor Waterford rider hit the deck, and stayed away til the finish.

Happy enough with how I went today, made the break and took my turn every time, but finished just outside the money, maybe 9th or 10th. At least my legs have come back to me!

He was flying it, said it to him a few times as I rolled past in the bunch, he must have been wondering who the wierdo that kept encouraging him on was :P

Yeah, was there in body anyway, didn't have a great week last week, got shelled on the second KOM and dropped out first time through the town, think I'd just underestimated it and done too much in the run up, but better to forget about that ;)

Yup, good race, well organised, I felt that there was good racing in A4, no crashes, screwed up the finish myself so no joy, but happy enough. Thanks Bohermeen and see you next year, for the A4 race again I'm thinking :-)

Anyone got results from the A4 race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭padjo5

No thread started during the week, but a massive looking turn-out, in the a4 bunch anyway. As DKO says, mostly well behaved riding today (that i saw anyway), few bottles rolling around the deck though. It was a pity none of the travellers on the bog-road came out to shout us on, that would have been a laugh.

As above, cocked up the last few kms coming to that last left turn, so was just outside the points. Enjoyable race, and the ladies dishing out the tea and sambos were good craic too! Thanks to all the Boher crew.

Oh, big congrats obviously to Ciaran Campbell, and Darragh (just saw a photo of the 2 lads with their trophys, impressive stuff!), and Dougal01, the Team Motivator!!

Anybody got a photo of the A3 winner I'd love it.Black Umbrella seems to have missed it as they have the photo of the gallop for third.

Rode the A4 race today and there was some good racing at times, the pace was fairly steady but this was probably due to the strong winds that seemed to be blowing from all directions. Rode most of the race in the small ring only going into the 53 for that stretch of main road where there was a bit of a tail wind.
Got around the last corner close to the front of the race and decided to kick hard for the line at 300m out but eventually was passed by a few guys sprinting hard, managed to hang on to stay in the points. It was an enjoyable race wjth not a bad result for my first open race for about 20 years.
Well done to Bohermeen CC for a well run race.

Did someone not come down after hitting a car mirror in A4?

Anybody know who the guy was taking shots on the last corner (the right for three left for one one)? Must have some great photos.

Someone on my right came down. not sure if he hit the mirror or lost balance trying to avoid it. Took me and a couple of others but it was a fairly low speed thing so no real damage to bikes or riders as far as i could tell.

Got back up and did a couple more laps with a team-mate who'd had a mechanical just to get some miles in.

Anyway well organised and marshalled race. Thanks to all at Bohermeen. And well done to the Campbell lads:)

My first A3 race today after getting the points for the upgrade last week. Was a bit nervous about racing over 100k, and unsure what to expect all in all.

Started ok, found it a lot harder to maintain position up near the front of the bunch, kept floating backwards before having to move up the outside again. Felt pretty good for the first lap or so though, And gave a dig coming into the start of the second lap. Worked with one other for a bit, but got pulled back. Went again in the 3rd lap, had what seemed like a strong group, but no commitment. Pulled back again.

I was totally swallowed up by the bunch after we were caught an found myself right at the back before long. Saw the winning break go, but was way too far back to do anything about it. It seemed to hover around 500m or so up the road for a while, and I made my way up the bunch with a view to seeing if I could get across. Realised I had a strong team mate in there and decided to disrupt the chase / follow attacks as long as I could. Found myself in no mans land with one other (cannot for the life of me remember which club).

Initially, I wasn't going to work with him, as I ha a man up the road, but the break seemed to be well and truly gone, and I thought the training would be good for me! Spent 2 and a bit laps in this two man chase group. 'Pain' doesn't even cut it. 2k to go, the bunch was about 500m back and i had pretty much nothing left so i let the wheel go and drifted back - finished at the back of the bunch. i think my companion actually stayed away to the finish - he also did the lions share of the work throughout... animal.

All in all I'm pretty happy with my first a3 race!

I'm curious does anyone have the average speed for the A3 race? I'm wondering how much faster then the A4 it was (as well as being 50% longer).

I finished in the break and my average was 39.3km/h, I'd say the winner must have been closer to 39.5km/h or more..

What was the A4 avg, as it felt like the fastest race this year.

Guy who came 4th in the A4 shows on strava as 38.5km/hr. I finished at the back of the bunch in A3 at 38.8km/hr

Not sure but I'd say most riders average on Sunday was up there with their fastest of the season.
