Self build is definitely much better than that PC World machine. However, if your budget can extend to 600, you'd build a much stronger machine with that extra cash, though what you have is pretty functional for a tight budget. For the 600 though, you'd be able to afford an Intel i3 or Amd Quad FX and a faster dedicated graphics card, an example being an FX4100 + HD7770 combination which would be able to tackle games at high-ultra settings at that monitor resolution.

Only noticed the 2nd build that - that's one is much stronger. The 965 is still a good cpu for games and actually beats the newer FX4100 in a lot of games, can be overclocked as well without too much effort. I would up it to 8gb of Ram at least, and then optionally if you can afford the 600, you could either add an SSD or a better card, but at it is, it's completely functional and good for high quality gaming at that monitor resolution.
