Hi guys, I am looking for a solution to this. My E60 rubber parts underneath front bumper fell off today (nearly fell off, only 1/4 of it was still attached to the bumper and so I took it off completely)

Can someone tell me what the use of that rubber/plastic part. do I need get this fix?

Looks like a splitter, its for aerodynamics

    Thanks Colm.
Do I need to get it replaced? what happens if I am not replacing it? (poorer mpg, poorer performance...) If it will not damage the car then I wouldn't bother to fix it.

It won't make a big difference, what it might cause is:

    - More front lift at high speed (unless you drive above 200kph I wouldnt worry!)

    - More wind noise, you can see for yourself if it bothers you

    - Could have a small effect on fuel economy, again only at motorway speeds though

The only thing I would actually check is whether it now leaves another undertray exposed to the airflow, so that on the motorway the air might get between the undertray and the body and rip it off. Have a look for yourself and see.
