I am looking for accommodation but I don't know how much it costs

The title says it all really. I go to WIT, I am looking into getting into student accommodation next year but I am not sure if my back to education allowance plus whatever I get on the student fund from the student union will cover it and if I can find a part time job. If shared accommodation works out at roughly €60 a week, would that generally include bills in most places? If you include bills would that number increase significantly? I've not lived on my own before, I'd say I eat an average amount of food, not a huge amount, not a tiny amount, what would food prices usually come to on a weekly basis? Is there any other extra costs that I have completely missed out on.

I understand this is a tough thread to answer because it varies from person to person but I am just looking for a rough estimate that I can base estimations around.

That sounds like rent only, but I don't know anything about the Waterford market.

Look at the price of digs (being a lodger) and that might give you a better idea about total cost.

Work out your own food costs over the period of a few weeks and add 50% if cooking for yourself only - higher risk of waste, smaller purchases, etc.

Electricity could be €50 per person per month, higher in winter, lower in summer. More if living alone or in a small household. See other bills that people pay here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056906664

I'm not sure if you can rely on the student fund before you go to college.

Thanks man. I know the questions I asked were a bit vague.

It's just I'm not sure how to go about it, there are usually notices around the college of people looking for housemates so I could answer one of those, or go through WIT's official accommodation.

I just want to try to get a rough idea of cost before doing it. €50 per month wouldn't be bad, I suppose the more people the less bills cost.

I've just done first year and am moving onto second year and I'm sure I'd be entitled to the grant.
