    Any help on this?

02 Primera (old shape) is making a really ugly rough noise when slowing down in gear. There is no noise when accelerating, only when you take your foot off the accelerator. The lower the gear the worst the sound. So it must be the gear box, right? When i put it in neutral and leave it free wheel, there is no noise.
    Is it fcukd?

Yeah i heard that, but i thought the p11 (95-02) were meant to be better that the p12 (02-08) as far as the gearbox is concerned.

I was just looking for someone who might know about these, that could maybe tell me that it looks like a new gearbox needed or maybe something else?.

    Is she petrol or diesel?
The bearings in the gear box are a known weak point and can fail easily enough. These can be replaced giving the box a new lease of life but usually people just grab a box from the breakers yard and lob it in. Easy fix but who's to say what condition that box will be in... 6 months away from failure is a posability. If you were going to keep the car long term, and there's no reason why you shouldn't, I would advise having the current box overhauled. Naas Gearbox centre & others are experts in this sort of stuff. That way you know the bearings are new and you'll have that bit of confidence in it. The rest of that car will go on for ever

    Thanks,
It's 1600cc petrol, would the bearings be the reason for that noise it's making when i take my foot off the pedal?
Also it's now hard to get it into reverse but the other gears are fine (1'st-5'th).

Hiya. I have an 02 avensis and had exactly same symptoms. Release bearings in gearbox were cause. Was like that a good 6 month's before they actually went. A second hand gearbox was cheaper than trying to strip it down n replace bearings. Shopped around and got one for 150 from limericks. 30 to deliver n 180 to fit. That year avensis known for problem also.
