    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of using a fuji x-e1... Was looking for one last december but could not fine one so got a Nikon D7000 instead, but tbh the D7000 is a great camera but a little big and heavy for caring around for street photography. So im looking to swap it + cash for a Fuji X-e1.

But would be nice to hear from anyone who has used a good quality DSLR before and a Fuji X-E1 and see what they think, is the Auto Focus as bad as people Say? Read loads of reviews online but its so hard to find a non-biased one.. when it comes to cameras people seem to be insanely brand loyal ;-)

Link for anyone actually interested in swapping http://www.adverts.ie/3000090

    Thanks

I still have a couple of dslr's but I got a Fuji x100 about 4 months ago and I rarely use the dslr's now. I had a look at the Fuji Ex-1 and the X1-Pro but they were too big to carry around unless you use a pancake lens, love the x-100 and despite some of the problems with it I still get a lot of use out of it.

Coincidentally, I just posted a new series of images on my website that was shot exclusively with the Fuji X-E1 and a 35mm f/1.4 lens:

I love this little camera. I upgraded from the X100, which is also a great camera, but I was starting to feel restricted by the sensor (the new X100s has sorted this though, same sensor as the X-E1/X-Pro1), and I never quite took to the OVF. Also, the built in lens is just a tad too wide for my liking.

I take the X-E1 everywhere with me now, and I usually pull it out for at least a couple of shots on paid portrait gigs. I don't find the AF all that bad. It's accurate and usually locks on the first try. But, it's not the type of camera that's intended to shoot sports, or anything that moves all that much really.

Having said that, as a working photographer I wouldn't trade in my workhorse 5DmkIII/5DmkII combo for a set of these, or any Fuji X-cam to be honest. As good as they are, they're just not there yet when it comes to ergonomics/usability.

Choosing focus points is still very fiddly and unintuitive. Some of the menu items are a bit vague as to what they do. There's still a tiny bit of lag when the EVF is updating, and the X-mount lens choice is still pretty slim (hurry up 56mm f/1.4!). Now, if they were introduce a full frame camera with a couple of long fast portrait lenses, then I would be tempted, as Fuji has definitely nailed it when it comes to the sensor technology in these cameras

For me, the X-E1 is all about having small camera with an excellent sensor and a great 35mm lens. I can take it anywhere and experiment, or I can rock up to the odd on location portrait gig with a tiny amount of gear if I have to, and still be confident that the client won't be short changed in terms of actual image quality.

    B.

    Thanks Very Much for that.
I've never bought anything refurbished before, I presume that you would have the exact same warranty as a new camera?

Exactly, I picked up a Fuji x100 about a month ago from the refurb site with full warranty. Have been bringing it everywhere with me due to its size in comparison to my dslr camera with a grip attached! Really happy with the results. As mentioned, great for street photography as people don't notice you pointing a DSLR in their direction!

Here's some pictures from the english market in cork taken with the x100. Originals are available by clicking on the images.

Hey just thought i might give a quick update here..

I sold the Nikon D7000 and got the Fuji X-E1 (silver one) with 18-55mm.

Really happy with the camera. very well built. have not taken it out on a trip yet (it only came on monday), just been messing around with it trying to get familiar with setting...

From what I have seen so far all the reports i have read are correct in relation to image quality. its really sharp ;-) great detail and color...

And the auto focus speed is perfectly usable for still objects, but moving object you can forget about.

And the kit lens is built like a tank! As good as any premium lens I'v seen from canon or nikon..

I find that the camera has a much better feel, for me anyways.

    Thanks
