My son is making his confirmation soon and I'm going shopping for his outfit today. I have no idea what to get. I'm afraid of going too casual or too formal. Can anyone advise. None of my friends have had to do this and sadly my mum passed away last year so I could really do with some help.

Hi snowdancer, sorry about your mum. Try not to stress to much you'll find on the day that kids wear all sorts to their confirmation. My much younger brother made his last month and he wore black jeans, a shirt, a dark coloured jacket and mainly black shoe/sneakers.

The main thing is my mam wanted clothes he would wear again and he would be grown out of a suit before it would ever get another wear. At his confirmation nice trousers or decent jeans with a shirt and jacket seemed to be what a lot where wearing with shoes and boots that weren't too formal.

Will the clothes be visible in church or do the kids have to wear those white albs in church? My brother had to wear an alb which I thought was nice on kids all looked the same it was only afterwards at the reception you could see properly what they where wearing.

Personally though I'd go with whatever you both are most comfortable with and happy with as you'll find on the day that kids will be wearing everything from track suits & runners to formal suits.
