Can't record on Saorview TV

    Hi,

Just a quick question. A friend bought a TV last year - Panasonic TX L32c5b (http://uk.shopping.com/panasonic-tx-l32c5b/info) to switch to Saorview.

He had a video recorder with the old tv but it's not recording anything now when he tries to set it up with the Panasonic.

I know video recorder's are a thing of the past :) but what is the best option should he wish to record from the TV?

    Nothing mad expensive.

    Thanks for any help!

If the VCR & tv are connected with a scart lead, he should be able to find the programme the tv is tuned to on a VCR external channel & record from that.

It will only be possible to record the programme the tv is tuned to, no ability to watch one, record another.

He could also get a cheap saorview box and pug that into the vcr, he could then watch tv and record seperatly.

Any other option if he isn't at home, is watching something else to record?

Any recommendations for a cheap Saorview box? Would that be watching one channel on the Panasonic TV with the Saorview box not connected to the TV, only the VCR?

Afaia, all Saorview approved boxes have the ability to record via their usb connection (to HDD or flash drive). The unapproved boxes would also have this facility.

It doesn't take long to appreciate the advantages of this recording method v. tapes.

No not all saorview supports recording via usb.... some are playback only and some have no usb at all, but if there is a recording facility he would be better off getting a hard drive for it

If he still wants to use the vcr i would plug a saorview box in by scart to the vcr and connect the vcr then to the tv, and have both connected to an antenna...

as regards a cheap saorview box they are all really the same so which type doesn't matter

Would he consider €180 as mad expensive for a proper twin-tuner Saorview approved recorder?

Can record 2 programmes at the same time and also playback a recording. Set recording via the 7 day guide, series link etc.
