cheers for the feedback man, don't think the ssd is needed just yet he'll probably just grab one in the future. Was thinking along the lines of something like this. Just a bit over budget but he could probably drop the hard drive as he has a few spare which would do him for a couple of months. Any issues with any of these parts? cheers

They'll all work fine together, another option would be to drop down to a 7950, and put in a Z77 board and 3570K. It would probably extend the life of the build quite a bit more since you could overclock the CPU in the future, but if its not something he's interested in, then the 3570 and 7970 is a better choice, both builds would come in at around the same price.

Edit : Asrock Z77 Extreme3 would be a decent board to pair with a 3570K

I'd agree on that. There's not much value in the 7970 unless you have cash to burn. The 7950 performs really close to it for €80-90 less.

Either save the money or put it into the overclockable parts and a decent cpu cooler.

Not just another option, a much better one. An overclocked 3570k will be much faster, and will last longer. An overclocked 7950 is almost as good as a 7970.

lads op is not into overclocking so no point in the K or recommending overclocking the 7950 or that motherboard

I've lost count of the amount of times people have answered "no" to that question, and I've still recommended a 3570K. It's €10 more, a board isn't much more, and he's going to have the computer for years. He'll kick himself when it starts getting slow. It takes five minutes to overclock on Sandy/Ivy anyway.

HI every body, I,m the guy that Igster is building the PC for thanks for all the replies and helpful suggestions you's have been a great help, this will be my first gaming PC. Ive been looking at parts myself and have put them just below im hoping you can tell me what you's think there a bit over the budget i gave Igster, but ill stretch if it means getting a machine that will still be good for gaming in a few years time.
Ive also looked into overclocking CPUs & GPUs and think its something id like the option to have to extend the life of the rig. Ive got old spare Disc Drive and HDD that i could use to keep the price down.

P.S Sorry for the Essay :)

    Intel Core i5-3570K Box, LGA1155

    ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP, Sockel 1155, ATX

Corsair Carbide Series 200R, ATX, ohne Netzteil

be quiet! Pure Power L7 530 Watt

    Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 WindForce 3X, 3GB GDDR5, PCI-Express

    8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL9

Mostly good choices. You need a Z77 chipset to overclock though, H77 won't do it. Also, the 7970 doesn't give a huge amount over the 7950. Probably better to go with the 7950 and overclock it.

What do you lads think of the 660 Ti-DC2T from asus compared to the 7950 if he were to go fro the cheaper card there priced roughly the same?

Thanks Serephucus for your suggestions, I'm glad you spotted my mistake on the choice of mother board. i will change that to Z77. There is something i left out in my earlier post I'm thinking that in a year or two when the GPU card that i get is cheaper i will buy a second one and run on the same Mother Board.

I think i might be better of with this mother board
    ASRock Z77 Extreme3, Sockel 1155, ATX

    for dual cards and overclocking.

It's a good card, but 7950 is better bang for buck as you can overclock it a lot more.

If the hdd and dvd drive are ide they won't work with the new machine. All new boards are sata only.

Change the board to the Asrock z77 pro 3 for single gpu or the extreme 3 for dual gpu.

That power supply is actually worse. You won't need any more than 450w for an ivy rig with a single gpu. Overclocked it will use about 350 peak. You could go for the 500w system power 7. It's only €5 more. If going dual gpu you should look into the 700w version.

As said already a number of time's there is little value getting a 7970. You are paying a premium for what is their top single gpu. The 7950 performs really close to it

When both are overclocked it's only around 8% in the difference. Even the 7870xt I listed earlier isn't far off and comes with 4 free games. That is the best value option imo. The money saved could be put towards a newer card down the line.

It would be around 20% off the performance of the 7970 but €140 less with games worth around €150 free. You're basically paying a premium of 60% more for 20% more performance and no games.

Just did a revised build there based on the feedback here and for sli/overclocking and came up with this, little over budget but could probably take the hard drive out if needs be.
