Running after tooth extraction

    Hello all!

I would really appreciate some help :) three days ago (Tuesday afternoon), I had an upper molar extracted. I'm planning on running a 10k on Sunday night (5 days after the extraction), but being a ridiculous hypochondriac/seriously squeamish I am feeling a little (okay very!) nervous about it. I'm scared that the extraction site might start bleeding due to the increased blood pressure during the race and that I'll get dry socket. A friend is recovering from it at the moment and it sounds like torture! I've not trained since the morning of the extraction, and am getting a bit antsy! Considering going for an easy run tomorrow to maybe test my mouth out and see how it goes. I think the tooth is healing okay and I've not experienced much pain, just a slight discomfort.

Has anyone any experience with running a race shortly after having a tooth extracted? Anyone have any words of wisdom to offer? :)

Most sites I've looked up suggest taking at least a week off to recover which has added to my nervousness.

Why must I torture myself by google-ing medical advice? I will never learn!

    Thanks for reading :)

    A

Boards can't give you medical advice on this as it's against the charter, I'd say speak to your dentist
