Fair play to you it takes a lot for men to run in that race in drag.

There's also a yearly Men's mini marathon, you could just do that instead.

No it does not. There are hundreds of races a year in Ireland that he could do, to raise money for the charity.
And he wants to run in drag in a womans 10km. It does not "take alot".

A friend who's doing it said men do take part but don't get medals.

Yes there are hundreds he could do, but there is only one mass participation woman only event. Plenty of men do it every year, for the same reason as the OP.

I do plenty of 10kms, and would never usally collect money for them. If I was going in drag though, I'm would ask for money, and I'm sure it would gather a few bob.

    Fair play to ya OP.

Why not? You can collect for any event you do.

I do the dublin marathon for charity every year. Why would a male make more money than me because he dresses in womans clothing???

No I dont get the idea. Just do any other race. And your family, friends etc. will give you money for a good cause.

I really dont understand why you would get more funds for the drag idea.????

thanks, men cant register as they cannot get medals, the whole idea came about when my aunty said she was running it again this year. she runs it with most of the female side of my family. so we (the males) felt we should do it too, raising funds at the same time.

I am relaxed, just my opinion.
I just dont understand why you pick the one race of the year that is womens only. This race fills up quick, so there are plenty of women would love to have your number.

Also, at any fun run, there is always people dressed up in crazy gear, having a laugh. It doesnt just happen on mini marathon day. Im sure your friends will laugh when you dress up for any other race.

Fair play man, just remember to leave off the G string though. You'll be red raw by the finish otherwise ;)

Yes I can collect for any event I want, But I have done every distance upto full marathon, hence I dont collect for them (10kms), if I was to collect for every race I did I would soon get, 'ah not again stewie, please fcuk off'.

My last marathon I did collect for, as I will for the next one I might do, and if I was to do the Womans Mini Marathon in drag I would also collect for it, as it would not just be any other 10km, I would be making a bit of a fool of my self for about an hour, doing something different, which people might not expect, so surely it is worth something.

I get the "not you again, looking for money", so I only raise for one a year.
I still dont see why people would give me more for wearing womens clothes. I dont think its worth something.

A good cause is a good cause. Dont have to go in a "strictly females only" event.

Guys do the women's mini marathon every year. I think, for a lot of them it is their only chance to dress as a woman in public. Nothing particularly brave about it IMO.

    Well the question still applies.

Why the buzz killing on a fun event to raise money for charity?

I think you need to lay off the OP a bit here, Okay so its only a flippin 10km, but its a cause very close to his heart, feck if he was to stick up his just giving or my charity web link, I'd nearly throw him €20 my self, only I dont know him.

Again, the novelty factor, doing something different.

Obvously not that strict when they let in men dressed as woman.

Also make sure you remember the golden rule of collecting for an event like this, always bring the sponsor card to the boozer with you. It's a fail safe method of maximizing the amount people will sponsor you ;)

Im not buzzkilling. Read the first page, I said anyone can raise money for charity, for any race.
Im just confused why he chooses to do a female only event??? And the reasons given didnt explain why he cant do the mens mini (for example) and raise money for the charity???

The "Bravery" belongs to those who the money is raised for. It's about making an ass of yourself for a good cause because you know there are those less fortunate out there who need the help.

i shouldn't really have to give any reason. ALL efforts towards a good cause should be made when possible.

I was just wondering what the sex of the person has to do with being able to participate in a fun run. It's not a serious race and is used by many people to collect for organisations due to its high profile.

Still on the first page myself, change the settings to 40 posts per page and you'll never look back :D

Reading that first paragraph, I think Ill leave this thread.
Because I dont know what you mean "Lay off the op"???? I only giving my opinion. The op started this thread, asking a question. I only answered it(not the way everyone wants), and never once abused him.

All I said was he can raise money doing something else.
Ive said in every reply that he can raise for doing a different event.

Novelty factor?? Still shake my head at this reason. Any event is a nearly a novelty, 5km, 42km, cycling race, mountain climbing etc.

And also, they have on the mini marathon website, "Strictly females only"... But they cant exactly stop a man doing it.

    All the best guys.

A couple of my mates did it a few years back. They didn't get numbers or official sponsor cards but were still able to partake, not sure if that's changed since but from the reactions they got you'll have a ball. Plenty of wolf whistling and banter on the way round :D

Goes without saying that the bravery is shown by those for whom money is raised. The OP appears to think that he deserves claps on the back for dressing as a woman to participate in a women's only event. I have seen guys in the mini marathon. It seems to be their big moment when they can dress as women, in public. Nothing brave about that, IMO.

I've done it twice. There's no bother with guys doing it, but you have to at least get into the spirit of it and throw on a dress and a wig or something like that. You don't have to sneak into it or anything, I'm not sure if you have to be registered to take part so you have a number on, I know I registered both times though. It's good craic, just be prepared to have your dress lifted up a lot, those housewives are a randy bunch.
