    Hello all,

Googled this but didn't find much in the way of a satisfactory response! My friend's Galaxy S3 died during the week. Unfortunately she had a load of pictures stored in the internal memory that weren't backed up. These pictures have sentimental value and she would be keen to get them back.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get these pictures back? Is there any company that specialises in this kind of work? Vodafone were absolutely no help at all.

    Thanks

Sorry I cant help mate but it just shows the importance of using Dropbox sync for backing up pictures,Mine syncs once it connects to WIFI.

In what way is it dead? There are usually always ways and means of getting at data save for exceptional cases where the damage is too severe.

They have a problem where one of the IC's just gives up the ghost. A lot of them are doing it atm.

This is above the level of boards OP. Try asking on XDA, the pros over there will give you a solid answer.

Agreed. Let this be a warning to those who aren't backing up.

No signs of life from the phone whatsoever. It's a brick in the true sense of the word.

Nah the phone would need to be functioning. At this stage I'm wondering if it's too far gone to be solved by an enthusiast, I'm thinking we'll need the help of a professional

Take the sd card out and dont put it into anything until you're ready.

    Then install this: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download

When you're ready with somewhere to read them to connect up the SD and let PhotoRec do its thing. The more the card has been used since the delete the less you will get back.

There's a chance that the photos were uploaded to the Google plus account, depending on how the phone was set up originally.

When data deleted from Samsung Galaxy, the os removes the pointer to the files from the file allocation table and flags the

deleted files as no longer needed. in order to recover the deleted photos, you need to avoid writing data to the card or

internal storage, plug in your device and set the usb setting as mass storage so that both the sd card and built-in storage

should be recognized and mounted as removable drive, scan the drive, then recover the deleted data from Samsung.
Hope you retrieve data from samsung galaxy soon!

Can't mount as a USB mass storage with sgs3 as I recently found out.

If the computer recognizes your phone but won't let you see any files then that would seem that USB debugging is not enabled. Here's an older thread where someone had the same issue with an S3. You may want to look at some of the suggestions here how to transfer files from galaxy s3 with broken screen.

You may also want to try options using adb as you'll be able to use the windows command prompt to accomplish functions on the device. But again, I'm not sure how that would work (or not) without debugging mode enabled.
