META Alarm retro fitted to Mercedes, Alarm not working

    Evening,
    I purchased a 1996 Mercedes E220 Coupe last year.
The car was originally fitted with Mercedes Infra Red Central Locking System but this was made redundant by the fitting of a META HPA US/M03 alarm in the past by a previous owner. Due to the Infra Red system originally fitted, their is no means of opening the drivers door with a key, only by use of the alarm key fob.

Anyway, I drove the car for a month before putting it into lay up for the winter; as part of this lay up, I disconnected the car battery last November and recently reconnected it in preparation of putting it back on the road this summer.Thankfully the car started first time but the alarm is not working.

The keyfob lights up but nothing happens to the car; it worked fine for the few weeks I was driving the car last year.

I have checked the 3 fuses associated with the alarm which are underneath the steering console close to the alarm brain; all is good their.

Does anyone know of what other checks I can make to get the alarm working again; does the alarm have its own battery I can change out as it may of discharged itself over the winter.

I'm based in Galway so if anyone knows a good auto electrician I'd appreciate the info......car has had many, many hands in its electrics and would really like to get a proper tidy up job on the electrics carried out.

    Many thanks for any help.

I've limited experience of meta alarms but I'm nearly sure the hpa versions of their alarms come with battery back up and it's built into the siren itself. Just double check for any alarm wiring directly to or coming from the battery that you may have missed and is disconnected

Sound out 5500; I'll have a look tomorrow.

Will be a serious pain in the ass if I cant get it working as the drivers door has no key lock.....

    Cheers

Have you tried changing the batteries in the FOB? Just because it lights an LED doesn't mean it's got enough power to transmit a radio signal.

The battery in the alarm should be rechargeable. If you can leave the car charging over night, if you don't have a charger or a place to leave it take the car for a long spin.

5500, no connection from the battery direct to the alarm unit; it looks like the alarm brain gets its power from the old loom of the cars Central Locking system...... the siren sits on the passenger side front wheel arch and has no battery on it either.

Del2005, I have not changed out the FOB battery yet but will do during the week. I have the car battery connected and also a trickle charger attached so will leave like this overnight and all day tomorrow too.

Posted about this on a UK Car Alarm forum and they reckon because the battery was disconnected so long and because I only have one FOB for the alarm that the Alarm Brain will now of forgotten the FOB so only solution to buy a new brain and FOB's for the sun of £99...... Maybe I'll have no choice.

    Cheers lads...
