I was doing about 140kmh on the motor was when I saw a Garda car parked on the slip road.

Did not see any tri-pod as I think there just sitting in the car.

Do they have cameras in the cars or is that only vans or what?

yu'll be OK in all probability. 140 is actually more like 126 or so given that many speedoes are 10% inaccurate.

I'd say you'll be fine, as long as they didn't go after you or have someone waiting at the next exit.

    Nah, they didn't give chase.

Then you're probably in the clear. Could have been having their tea laughing at people like you jamming on.

Ha ha, to be fair I would probably laugh at that too :D

Gardaí aren't automated - they still have to stop you and issue a ticket manually.

There are a few laser based tripod systems in the Gardai that are attached to a camera. Very rare and have to be in a tripod set up i.e. Pretty obvious.

But they'd still need to pull you over and issue you a fine, all the same. As far as I'm aware, only speed vans (both Garda and private) are automated). :)

    No.

    Read what I said again.

    And my post here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056091811

The Gardai in a patrol car have a few options:

    1) Pacing - Pretty much driving behind a driver. Matching their speed or using on-board radar. They'll pull you there and then.

    2) Laser - Shooting from the car or from a tripod. They'll give chase.

    Looks like this:

    Ultralyte-100-LR.jpg
    Known as the Ultralyte.

    3) Laser - Option B - Its a laser system attached to a camera. Takes speed and photo. And then issues ticket. Really rare. I've only seen one once but I'm reliably informed there are a few units in the country. They must be tripod mounted.

    Looks like this:

Basically the same gun, sat in a camera cradle. Again I'll note, very rare.

    Good info

    With option 2
Do they have to pull you over and issue a ticket ?

No, they don't have to pull you in. But they are really rare.
