OP, if you want a machine that you can use to clean carpets and upholstery, a wet and dry vac isn't what you need.
    You need an extraction machine.
These are a sort of 3 in 1 machine,as they can be used as a vacuum cleaner, a wet vac, and a carpet cleaner.
Unlike a wet vac, they pump a chemical of your choice INTO the carpet/upholstery that you want to clean, and then suck it straight back out, giving a sort of washing effect.
Anyways, here's the one I bought last year;(Stg£277 delivered)

    BTW, it's the CTT470-2!

Do you use it for cars? Does the it do a good job for stains? Cheers

Actually John, I would also advise you to give the lad in Fort Plant Sales a bell, as he supplies the extraction machines to the valeting departments of a few dealerships around Dublin.
I can never remember the chap's name, but I bought a pressure washer off him a while back and found him very decent to do business with.

He's right opposite the entrance to TV3.

Yes, I use it on cars, and so far I haven't come across a stain it couldn't deal with.

The only difference between this Numatic and the ones that the likes of Fort sells,is power.
Those other units tend to have twin 1200W motors- the only advantage is more suction power to remove more of the pumped solution from the carpet/upholstery an thus reducing drying times.

I've even used the Numatic on the carpets in the house!

Thanks il give Fort a ring tomorrow and see what he has, bit of a newbie question but is there a good bit effort needed to get rid of a stain or does it come out easy, I know it probably depends on the type of stain too

With stains, I usually give them a spray of something first, with something Fabric Clean by Chemical Guys or a diluted All Purpose Cleaner mix. Give it a decent soaking and agitate with a soft nail brush or similar. Then give the whole seat a good wet vac.
It might need two attempts to do it, as sometimes the seats, or around the stain might dry with a faint white tide line.

Also, be careful not to oversaturate your carpets as some models( I'm thinking of Passats mainly here!) have Comfort Control Modules under the carpet near the front passenger sill that can get fubared by water.

I also tape over the front seatbelt receivers for similar reasons.

Also, grab a few of these Dehumidifier Bags or similar and throw a bag in each foot well for a day or two, if you are having difficulty getting it bone dry, they will help draw the moisture.
Might not be a major issue this time of year, especially if its a sunny day it will dry out quickly (leave the windows open slightly) but you might find the windscreen fogging up really quickly if there is still a bit of moisture in all the fabric...they will sort it in a day or two! :)
