I have a query & perhaps someone can help.

I'm registered for income tax as a soletrader, however not earning enough to register for vat.

I'm currently trying to purchased goods from NI & they have requested my vat number in order to "alert" the revenue that I am liable for the vat to be paid. However, upon providing them my PPS number they keep claiming its invalid. I'm at a loss as to what to do because the company is set up and registered within the limits I need it to be. The PPS number was used previously when the company was listed as a sub-contractor so I don't know what the issue is.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

A UK VAT-registered business does not need to charge VAT on goods exported to Ireland, provided it obtains the customer’s Irish VAT registration number (including the IE prefix) and shows it on the invoice

Just tell them you are not VAT registered and they will charge you VAT
