OK heres my question (Ive seaeched google for this but cant find out) We have a tv which we alternate between a sky extension and a digital connection from the house ariel. When someone is watching sky on one tv I change the lead at the back of the other tv to the digital connection so I can access other channels. As sky comes in on one channel and the digital channels are on different numbers can I connect an ariel splitter directly to the back of my tv to save me constantly changing the connections. I hope this question is not too confusing:)

A basic Y splitter like this will do - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/2-Way-TV-Coaxial-Aerial-Splitter-Y-Adaptor-Signal-RF-UK-PLUG-NEW/261205885727?rd=1&ssPageName=mem_guide:1&ih=016&category=175835&cmd=ViewItem or this http://www.ebay.ie/itm/TV-RADIO-FM-COAXIAL-COAX-AERIAL-ALUMINIUM-Y-SPLITTER-/360643460189?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item53f8067c5d , you should be able to pick one up locally at a DIY store, Dunnes etc.

This would seem to imply that the 'house aerial' connection in the room with the Sky box has been pressed into service as the Sky RF feed, carrying the Sky box output to the other tv(s)?

The Skybox has an RF-in socket for connection of a terrestrial aerial, for the purpose of combining the aerial signal with its own RF output: RF1 to 'local' tv & RF2 for 'remote' tvs in other rooms.

Oh thanks a mil for this - so just to confirm (so theres no confusion:o) I put the y splitter directly into the back of my tv and connect the digital aeriel to one side and the sky+ extension to the other and then I can switch between digital and sky+ viewing without anymore aerial changing? And my tv wont explode? (a quick "yes" will make my day:D!) ?

    Yes.

You first post was a little unclear, see Peter's post.

Is this TV where the Sky box is located or elsewhere in the house?
As Peter pointed out above if you connect the aerial into the Sky box the digital Saorview signal will be piggybacked together with the Sky signal to other TVs in the house and tuned in as normal on any Saorview STB or TV.

Sorry I dont quite understand what you mean - but I want to be able to put the splitter directly into my tv with the sky extension connected off one side and the digital aerial connected off the other. So I would be basically feeding 2 different types of tv signals into my tv.

(the digital signal I speak of is the signal which comes from the wall connection which is linked to the aerial on the house roof - where you used to get the analogue channels from you now get lots of digital channels)

Is the Sky box located at the TV where you're going to use the splitter or elsewhere in the house?

No its elsewhere. The sky box is in another room and I have the sky extension running into the second tv. Im not great with these things but if I can use the splitter thats brilliant and simpler for me! thanks again!

Do you have a digital aerial connection in the other room where the Sky box is located? If so you could use the same cable from the Sky box in the other room to carry the digital aerial signal together with the Sky signal to that TV on one cable and no splitter, then just tune in both signals as normal. The Sky and digital aerial signals on the cable won't affect each other. Simply connect the aerial feed into the Sky box (aerial in/RF in socket) and the Sky box combines both on the one cable out.

The Sky extension you refer to should be the RF2 output from the Sky box. This output will also allow you to change channels remotely on the Sky box with a Sky magic eye.

I was just speculating as to why there would be 2 cables feeding the 'other' tv. I changed the wording of my reply before submitting, the original asked whether the aerial system was installed at a later date than the Sky box.

Maybe you installed the Sky extension yourself?
