If anybody has ran the Achill half marathon in the past and could recommend some good accommodation I'd really appreciate a PM with some suggestions. Probably have left it a bit late but will head down if I can sort something out. Never actually been to Achill myself.

    Thanks

No recommendations, but if it's full down Keel way and you're stuck with Achill Sound accommodation it detracts a bit from the experience in my view.

I stayed in The Valley House when there for the half marathon back in 2007(?). It's on the other side of the "island" from the race start (or at least where the race start was when I did it), but there were a good few runners staying there and there was a bar on-site.

Plus one for the Valley House, it's basic but a cracking pint of Plain to be had

I have also rented a cottage here http://www.mayoholidays.com/OurCottages.htm

Which is a 5 min walk to the start, would also agree Achil Sound leaves you a bit removed from the event itself

I stayed at Inis Aoibhinn last year, a B&B in Dooagh about 3-4 miles the other side of Keel where the race starts and finishes. It was comfortable.

Buy a cheap tent - if you don't have one already - and stay in Keel camp-site might be your best option. The race starts just outside so you can sleep in late without any of the hassle of a long drive on the morning.

We stayed in The Ferndale BB last yeay. Its expensive at 90euros per night but its special and worth it if your on a splurge. Its 5 min jog to start/finnish and next door to a very good pub. Btw Achill is 3 to 4 minutes slower than your average half, a beast of a course.

Not enough of a clown to pay 700 euros for a week in Achill.

€700 for a week in a 5 bedroom house, split several ways isn't too bad at all when you work it out.
