    hi all

im new to this so bear with me. my car wouldn't start this morning. tried jumping it and starting it off a hill. there is power going to the radio and wipers but wont start at all. just wondering if anyone knows of a cheap tow company in the newbridge/nass area or of a mechanic that would come out to look at it?

    Hi,

Firstly what kind of car is it?

When you say won't start, is it turning over when you turn the key, or is it just clicking, or is it doing nothing?

What did you do when you tried to start it on the hill exactly?

Might seem very obvious, but is there plenty fuel in it?

There's plenty people who'll tow you in Newbridge, but no point having it hauled away if there's something simple going wrong.

    Hi

its a 06 focus, petrol. the dash lights come on when tried to start it with jump leads but that was all, and then there was clicking. and as i said the radio came on and the wipers. when i started it on the hill it did turn over but wouldnt start. my neighbour did the hill start so i cant say exactly what he did but it did turn over. there is plenty of fuel in it only filled it yesterday!

And are the dash lights dimming a fair bit when you turn the key as if to try and start it?

hmmm....,, he was hardly turning the key on the way down the hill?

Get a good set of jump leads to start it.
Battery needs approx 12.7 volts to start your car.
If you have lights on the dash, get a push and start (not on the key) in 2nd gear and letting clutch out.

Are you located in newbridge or naas?

I cant help any further really, excepting that you're 100% sure its petrol you put in, not diesel ?

I'll pm you a number of a mobile mechanic we've used before, sound chap, really knows his stuff & wasnt dear when we had him out,

it has been dead on a few occasions in the last year and ive put a new battery in it just before christmas. but every other time it has started with the jump leads. also, when my neighbour was trying to start it on the hill and it turned over the headlights came on, but the switch for the lights was not on. would it be possible that there is a connection problem and the lights would be staying on draining the battery?

Check the wires at the starting motor to see if there loose (or have fallen off)

    LBY could have a point,

Get some good leads, have the charging car running, and leave it charge for a good few minutes before you turn the key, make sure all wipers, radio, lights & all other electrics are off & not used

Try start it then. Your battery could be feckled, you might not need a mechanic at all.. as a matter of fact I cant find his number :(
