Demo model 2013 Toyota Corolla or wait for new model

    Hi

I've posted about buying a new 2013 car or a 2012 used. I have found a Toyota Corrolla (Terra - basic model) - demo model - only 18km on it (and that is 18 not 1800). I have a Suzuki Swift - petrol - 2009 with 76000K on it. The list price for the 2013 car is 20950 - with my trade in, they are quoting me 13800 so they are giving me 7150 for my car.

Now the thing is that there is a new model Toyota Corolla coming out in July.

Would you go for an old model new car at this price or wait for the new model in July. Bearing in mind that if I wait until July I'll have to service my current car and put it through the NCT.

The other option that this garage has is a 2011 Toyota Corolla (luna model - alloys, blue tooth, fog lamps - none of which particularly interest me!). And they are looking for 11000 along with my own car for it. This car has 20000 km on it.

I was looking at the 2013 Opel Astra but it was working out at 16500 price - and that is the basic spec.

All the cars I've looked at are diesal.

    Help !!

    Thanks.

I wouldn't get the current model corolla it's a poor car it also has terrible spec in terra it doesn't even have aircon.

Terra spec is dire, and will be worth even less when the new model lands. The new model looks to be a big improvement. I would hold off.

Thanks for replying. That pic of new Corolla looks lovely. Maybe that's why they are trying to get rid of the demo!

I would not be buying a current model Corolla anyway, it is a 6 year old design and definately not an entry level model. There are much better offerings from other manufacturers these days with longer warranties such as the Hyundai i30 and Kia Ceed.

Don't bother with the current saloon. They'll be discounting the hell out of them before the new one comes out, but that aside its a oretty poor car.

The astra saloon isn't that bad actually. Drove one recently (1.7) and its better than I thought it would be.

New model supposed to be due July - in time for the 132 registration. The Open Astra Saloon is a lovely car - unfortunately out of my price range!!

S40 is a beaut of a car, but beware maintenance costs. Can be up there with BMW/Audi in terms of parts if you use the genuine article.

Ford Mondeo / VW Passat also worth a punt at that price range.

What about the new Skoda Octavia

Volvo S40 would be my dream car but as said - worried about parts costs. I did look at Skoda Octavia but it was working out pricey - well, any that I found. Don't know anything about Mazda - do they have a good name? Who would they be comparable too - regarding maintenance costs.

I think the Ford Mondeo and VW Passat might be just too big of a car - I'm going from a Suzuki Swift!

Thanks again for all your replies.

There is a new Mazda 3 due at the end of the year so you will be in the same boat as buying the current Corolla.

Does it have to be a saloon, plenty of hatchback options in this size car.

Wanted to try the saloon because I've had hatchbacks for the last 20 years or so. The boot in the Suzuki has really driven me mad - no space so I'm over compensating by looking at saloon cars!!

Then again if I found a hatchback I really loved - I'd consider it. I tried the Focus - dashboard is space age - did not like. Tried the Golf and Auris - found there wasn't much difference size wise with my Swift so don't see the point of changing to them. VW Jetta - boring dash!

I tried the Audi A1 - did not like. The Audi A3 was lovely but expensive and everyone keeps telling me about the expensive parts.

You can tell I've tried a lot of cars. Think it's because I don't have to change straight away so really want to find a car I love.

I'd be all over this or similar.

The auris is way bigger than your swift by the way.
