I'd try Universal Providers on the Kells road. Give them a buzz before you head over. 056 7762658

    I think it's a Weller.
Looking for a finer tip for it 2mm if possible.
Not sure if the iron is working well though as it is quite old.

    Have attached a photo.

After looking on Ebay it might be an Antex.
Anyway, tried both Ormande Electrical and Universal Providers, both no joy. They suggested in UP that I try KWS on Callan Road. Will have a look tomorrow.

If your not adverse to buying online I recently purchased the following and am very happy with it. Have done big and small joints and repaired small circuits with it and havent had any problems. tip pack comes with a .08mm tip and a superfine (about .04mm) tip and comes with a regular 2.4mm chisel tip.

The iron itself comes with the .08mm tip which I mostly use bar when I am doing trace repairs when I will use the chisel tip.

    Iron:

That looks quite a handy bit of kit.
Will seriously think about purchasing as you have recommended.
    Many thanks. ;)

How much was postage to Ireland?

I used parcel motel so delivery was their £6 plus €3.50 from parcel motel or free if you havent used parcel motel before.

All in all it cost about €55 after converting to euro.

Well worth it and you will appreciate how much better your work is.

    That's a better deal :)

I wouldn't use the solder sucker though, I have had to reball more than once because of those things =/ Get some copper braid it's much better.

Purchased and delivery via Parcel Motel.

    Thanks again. ;)

Let me know if you need any info on the station when you get it :) the manual pretty much goes over everything anyway so you should be ok.

Just remember to use flux if you are doing some smaller joints as the flux in the solder may not work the best!

    Will do, thanks.
Already have some flux ready and waiting from other jobs. ;)

Farnell sell the same kit for about €60.

I bought it a few weeks ago and did an 8 hour soldering session. So far I can't fault it :)

Maplin sell the same rebranded iron for €100

I bought one of those from Aldi a while back and I don't like it. It's too difficult to tighten everything up, so I can never keep my PCB steady.

While I've never used it, I think something like this might be better.

The arms look easier to lock into place.

    Didn't realise farnell have it.

I first saw the kit in maplin alright but wasn't prepared to pay what they were asking (was 120 when I looked!) so when I seen it online at this price I was very happy.

I use mine daily for about 2 hours and love it. If anyone asks what to get I will always say this kit.

Don't bother, it is very small and is only good for working on small boards such as mobile phone boards. I got one and haven't used it once since I got it. Rubbish.

You are better off with something like this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10X-LED-Head-Headband-Magnifier-Magnifying-Glasses-Loupe-Repair-LED-Light-UK-/400475990730?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_JewelleryBoxes_Supplies_CA&hash=item5d3e3aaaca

It may not be the best quality example though.

Just picked up my station from Parcel Motel.
Very happy with the service and the soldering station is nice as well.

Now to dig out some old PCBs and have practice. ;)
