Fixed Speed camera

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knew if there was a speed camera on the R136 road just after the traffic lights at the Grange Castle golf course. Also the car is out of tax as its going for NCT tomorrow to be sold (Wifes old car), was just driving it to clear out any possible emmissions, hence revving the engine on take off at these lights! Is it possible that if it was snapped they can tell it was out of tax as well?

    Thanks,

    HeeBeeGeeBee

A lot of fixed speed cameras are not in use

Your post is all over the place.

Did you see a speed camera?

Why do you feel that "heavy revving" at lights would cause you to engage a speed camera? Did you pass a speed camera? Were you speeding? Did it flash?

When a declaration is being made that the car was off the road and if the vehicle was found to be speeding, then yes, they can tell. But if you've sold it on then it's a moot point.

When I say heavy revving I mean I took off from the lights faster than I normally would. I thought I saw a flash after the lights and decided to turn backaround at the next roundabout to see if there was a camera there which there was. The speed limit was 80kmh which I dont think I was doing as the camera is quite soon after the lights. I searched last night to see if I could find out whether it was a speed camera and all I could find was a traffic camera around this location. Also I didnt see any notices to say there was a speed camera on this stretch of road. I know in the past the mobile units operate here just wasnt aware of whether or not a fixed camera was in place hence the post to see if anyone else had encountered one.

I think you're being a bit paranoid here OP fueled by the fact that your motor was un taxed at the time.
I know the area you're on about but don't know the camera.

We're not allowed to advocate people breaking the law around here however you should be aware that when you sell the car (presumably without TAX) that the next owner will be making any declarations needed in relation to non use so even if you did get done by the camera, one would almost certainly say that the worst you'll get is a fine and points for the speeding.

This is subject to change in August though OP and it's being bandied about that you'll have to pre declare your car off the road from then on but for now you're probably safe.

On a final note, watch out for the "should have got the car Taxed, shouldn't be speeding" brigade. :D

Can you post a link to the area you saw the flash?

There are red light cameras in Dublin (This one near Heuston: http://goo.gl/maps/SsSNY) but I would very, very much doubt there is one on that road.

Currently speed cameras don't check for tax (But I wouldn't bet my house on someone checking if they had doubts) It is however on the cards for large scale implementation. In the UK they have vans for just doing tax, MOT etc.

Guys thanks for your responses on this. Im well able for the holier than thou brigade if they decide to have a go. It was a stupid mistake but not intentional dangerous driving. No cars anywhere near me and just wanted to clear out exhaust for NCT emissions check. Lesson learned. Take care.
