Can you build a house with dry stone wall?

    Can you build or renovate a house with dry stone walls, without mortar filled joints? Is it very susceptible to water ingress? Is it feasible?

    if the stone is used as an external cladding over the structure, then sure.

    when you say renovate, its much easier to determine if the dry stone walls cause a problem.

    This fantastic building is faced in free standing traditional dry stone wall. Crafted by expert architects and structural engineers and stonemasons- of course. The stone wall is set off the external wall with about 50mm air space and the "true" external wall is externally insulated masonry.

    The dry stone walling took a heck of a long time and continued for a period even after the building was opened to the public.

    If your wallet can stand it go for it.
