    Hi,

I have just got a house off the Council and I need to furnish it. The thing is even though I work full time I am struggling to get by due to loans (I know this is my own doing). i have tried to get a loan to furnish the house myself but have been refused. Is there any point of me applying for a grant just for the essentials, fridge, cooker & washing machine?

    Thanks

Talk to your local CWO,but as you are working full time you may be refused.

You might have to bring in statements/payslips to the CWO to show you can't afford it by yourself, but I'm not sure you'll be entitled to much because you're working.
    Talk to them anyway.

can you look to get your loans restructured in anyway to reduce your payments? Can your Credit Union help? Other than that, buy second hand for now.

and as the above said, wouldnt do any harm to talk to your CWO.

What you should do is get an application form fill it out. Put a copy of all the loans you have into it and state that without all these loans you would be able to afford the items yourself and could they help you with some of them. Worth a try.

Write to your creditors. Explain to them that you are not in a position to continue making payments until you have managed to furnish your house with at least basic necessities. ell them you will pay token amounts for the next few months until you can resume larger payments. Do not be afraid to do this, they may well not be very pleased but if explained properly they will accept. You must do whatever you must do. As for CWO I can tell you there is zero chance.

If you are badly in debt try Christians against poverty.

regardless of your religeon (or lack of) they are excellent at helping folk get back on a sound financial base.

    and they're free!

as to getting furniture, charities or freecylce/freegle.

I've got a gorgeous dining room suite and had lots of other stuff that came off freegle.

but they don't give you the (cash) grant. So I think my & your answer are not relevant. The question is Can I get a grant??

hmmmm could be wrong. cough cough.

sure just stick it on the bill below.

The author of the original post is working full time and is a taxpayer!

MABS is great with helping people to organize budgets and repayments. As advised, the Community Welfare Officer is the person to approach re funding in respect of Council Houses.

I couldn't agree more with you in relation to mabs. However don't see the relevance of your opening line. Because if she was not employed. I would not have respondedor got involved in this post at all. so read between the lines. Ill spell it out.....people who are not working are getting it. I have a few loans that I could prove leaves me with little money. how can I get around working and getting this grant.

I would just like to clarify I am not a specialist in this area and I do not really know how I ended up in this forum. But Ill give my tupence worth.

I would guess. Working is not relevant to your entitlement for housing. I would suggest its based on your salary and abilty to house yourself.

Social welfare grants and entitlements are there to benefit people for a lot of reasons (which I do agree with) . However I am sure rules or put in place to deter abuse of the system. So a person can not the use the system to top up their tan or furnish/renovate their house or upgrade the suv.

However I well believe there is a lot of errant people as well as people wishing to be errant seeking advice from the more qualified. I suppose it depends on your Morals.

Hi, I may need these kind of grants in the near future.

I bought a house and I furnished it during the boom. The thing is even though I work full time I am struggling to pay my NE mortgage and personal loans and to get by day to day (I know this explains the majority of the country). I would not be approved any more personal loans in the future and my funds are tight. Is there any grants available . If my fridge, cooker or washing machine needs replacing?

Thanks QBE on behalf of the majority of the nation

Local authorities are the main providers of social housing or ‘housing authorities’ for people who cannot afford to buy their own homes. Local authority housing is allocated according to eligibility and need. Rents are based on the household’s ability to pay. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/local_authority_and_social_housing/applying_for_local_authority_housing.html
