UCI comes in for a lot of criticism but at the same time iscertainly doing some things right
UCI globalisationpolicy and UCI World Cycling Centre rider support are creating opportunitiesand success for non traditional cycling nations and their riders.....
Heres some quotes from Cycling News report on yesterdaysstage
"Natnael Berhane(Team Europcar) won the Tour of Turkey stage 3 mountain finish to Elmali with apowerful surge to the line after leading the attack that decided the queenstage of the race
Berhane is the currentAfrican road race and time trial champion, but this was his first victoryoutside of Africa. Today's win made him the first black African cyclist to winat the HC level
One month after thestage win of his former friend from the UCI World Cycling Center, Ethiopia'sTsgabu Grmay at the Tour de Taiwan, Berhane confirmed that cyclists from allcontinents can realistically hope for major success"

Hopefully we will also see success on the Worldstage for our own track sprinter Eoin Mullen from the Aran Islands who is afull time rider at the UCI cycling centre preparing for the sprint events andmaking great progress

Call me cynical, but the likes of the UCI, FIFA, etc. don't bring cycling to new places because they want to further the sport, it's all about the bottom line at the end of the day.

It's great to see cyclists from all walks, but then you see the farcical side like the Tour of Korea and the multiple crashes caused by motorbikes and it restores a little perspective.

It's important cycling grows as a sport worldwide, but it requires patience and natural expansion, ensuring that all the necessary structures are in place to train riders, prepare races, etc.

    Just so we're clear...

Noted African sprinter, Gerald Ciolek, wins MSR. Natnael Berhane wins some race in Turkey -> completely thanks to the sterling efforts of the UCI. All hail!

Noted American doper undertakes the biggest sporting fraud in history, leaving a seven year hole in the results sheet of the sport's blue ribbon event. A lost generation of cyclists are faced with a choice between doping or leaving the sport -> NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THE UCI. MOVE ALONG. NOTHING TO SEE HERE.

    Right.
