    Hi,

Going to Cork this Friday never took the bus before but planning so this time as train is too expensive now. Can anyone let me know where exactly is the air coach stop in Dublin City Centre to Cork bond? I'll be in the rush to meet the departure time from work so hope to find the bus stop in the shortest time.

Also, does anyone takes this line regularly know if the time table says 5pm, 6pm, etc. Dublin City Centre, do the normally come pretty much on-time? Or they tend to be earlier or later?

Just want to time it right on Friday after work.

    Thanks

If travelling at 5pm Friday, you would be well advised to book - if getting there on time would be difficult, consider booking a later service. If there is space on the earlier service, they may allow you to travel on it.

The stop is on Westmoreland Street, by the O'Brien's Sandwich Bar. http://maps.google.ie/maps?q=Westmoreland+Street,+Dublin&hl=en&ll=53.345749,-6.258921&spn=0.000788,0.001915&sll=53.32432,-6.251695&sspn=0.201781,0.490265&oq=Westmoreland+Stree&hnear=Westmoreland+St,+Dublin,+County+Dublin&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=53.345699,-6.259085&panoid=KBJp0y6QxOQZYBtImzfMEw&cbp=12,239.27,,2,-0.44 note that the stop is used by a variety of routes and operators and can be exceptionally busy.

Expect the possibility of some delay, but not severe.

Thanks very much for your reply, i will more than likely to get the 6pm bus instead of 5, is that one busy too? also, if the stop at o'brien's sandwich bar to Cork direction or from? I just had it in my head that that is the traffic to o'connell street direction which is into Dublin, for buses going out of dublin i thought should be on right hand side of the street which is where the side of Westin hotel is. i could be confused though. thanks

The 4pm, 5pm and 6pm buses on a Friday are all very busy, when I took it two weeks ago, all of these were full (and they used two coaches at 6pm!).

I recommend you book online. You will be guaranteed your seat then.

If you book for 5, but miss it, they will take you at 6, as long as their is space after all the people with bookings for 6 have boarded. Which is pretty fair.

It leaves for Cork from Westmoreland St (outside O'Briens sandwich bar).

Have you considered the GoBé service from Busáras which leaves at 4.30pm and 6.30pm?

Hi, I have looked GoBe, but i don't like the hours. couldn't make the 4.30 one as not finished work yet, 6.30 will be a little longer waiting around. Also GoBe departs from the Bus station which involves bit more commute from my office.

This pretty much sums up the disadvantages of the GoBE service. The departures times are before and after peak time and Busaras is a little out of the way. Again I really can't believe they cancelled the 5:30 service, it had to be their busiest service!

When you say busy do you mean bussiest service on a Friday only...

Well 5:30 would the the busiest time any day of the week. Obviously it is even busier on a Friday.

At the very least they should have kept the Friday 5:30 departure. However I think it would have been better if they had 5:30 every day of the week and say the 4:30 on only a Friday and Sunday.

It may not be that simple though.

The timings to a degree could be governed by the EU working time directive depending on the times that the drivers operate the northbound service.

Perhaps the loadings on those dictated which services were dropped on the southbound direction.

They use that stop for a lot of their services, so just make sure you head for the correct one.

One would expect that passegner numbers on the 4.30, 5.30 and 6.30 were recorded over a certain time period and the 4.30 and 6.30 proved to have better loads or even a more of a regular customers who travel more than twice a week. Mabye the friday 5.30 should of being kept but GoBe are using the bus on an extra Galway service.

The Galway and Cork routes are using a completely different set of buses.

The Galway route is run in-house by GoBus from their Galway depot but the Cork route is being run by Pierce Kavanagh from their Cork and Dublin depots under contract.

If you need to be on the 5/6 service, definitely book it online. Those particular services on a Friday afternoon/evening are always jammed and the queue is generally ridiculous. Also I don't think that it could be described as being a queue, more of a rugby maul...

If getting in half an hour later isn't a problem I would get the Gobe service, purely because of the hassle of actually managing to get on the Aircoach at Westmorland Street during rush hour. It's a ten minute walk from where the Aircoach goes from, you can book online, it takes the same amount of time and is easier to actually board the bus at peak times.

I have no problem travelling up to Dublin on the Aircoach, but recently I've avoided coming back down on it purely because of the Westmorland Street setup at peak times.

If you book Aircoach online, then you don't have to worry about the queues or the maul. Just hold back until they start to board, which they will then ask people with bookings to come forward and board first, so just come to the front then.
