No sound on RTÉ on one Samsung TV but sound on the other!

    Hi,

My wife & I noticed that while we were getting sound on our main Samsung TV (a series A TV), our smaller LE26C450 is not picking up any sound on the RTÉ channels - apart from RTÉ News Now! The other stations are stating 'Mono'. The Freeview channels are working fine.

Is there something odd going on with the RTÉ transmissions or are they trying a new sound mode? Seems strange that one channel is coming in with sound but the rest not?

Is AD (Audio Description or Narrative) enabled?

Sounds silly but have you tried turning off the tv at the power for 30 secs. Are you using a set top box for channels? Try switching both off for the 30 sec. I had this issue with my mirai tv and i had tried the hdmi and replaced it. Spoke to my it friend and he said to try this after i laughed and he sat there dead serious stare on his face, i tried it and bam worked something to do with syncing. (so he said)

Thanks for the replies. I turned it off for 30s plus at the switch but still no joy. I tried both AD on and off but it is also not making any difference, unfortunately. The TV has MPEG-4 built in - I am able to watch RTÉ without using an external box.

I did get them back in the end.. by manually re-scanning the Mux. Strange! Unfortunately that throws the channels back in the 800s so I have to reorder them again. At least the sound is back!

That sounds like a firmware bug to me.

Same issue exists on a BT YouView Humax PVR based in NI.

    Signal strength: 100%

Soarview channels have no audio apart from RTÉ News Now. I haven't yet been able to reset the box due to the possible loss of recordings.

A Technika Freeview HD receiver in the same house has no problems at all.

I discovered today that 'Audio Description' was enabled in settings and this was the reason the Soarview channels had no sound.

    Hi

had same problem some messing in rte it appears that the language selection is disable on the transmission audio on rte 2 . You will only hear the announcer it appears to be turned on for them . When it goes to the programs the language on the audio is turned off .

If you enable english for the audio description it will work . The problem is only on rte 2 tv not on rte 1 . Have tried to ring rte to complain . They don't understand the problem and send you on to saorview . So best not to waste your time . It will take a few weeks for them
    to listen to complaints .

    Cheers

Thanks, got it working by changing the audio description to English on the remote control.
It won't save this setting though so ever time I change the channel, no sound turns off again.....any ideas how to get it working for good?

Looks like saorview have messed up the "nar" setting on RTE2.
They previously made the same mistake on TV3/TG4/3e.
The issue the nar channel is flagged as a language channel. As the nar is silent no audio is available when Audio description is selected.
Saorview need to change the nar setting on RTE2 so that it compliments the main audio (in this case "eng") when audio description is selected instead of the empty/silent nar channel.

OP should email saorview to inform then of error. There was a few threads on this forum on this issue before. They denied there was a problem for years but eventually the figured out the settings were incorrect & fixed the problem. www.saorview.ie or email info@saorview.ie
