    Hi guys

I've posted something like this in the UL forum but I'm hoping for any application tips from people who've managed to get funding so I've posted it here as well. Any advice would be welcome! It also might be something a few of you would be interested in applying for so I'm giving you the information as well so that I'm not just signing up to get advice for myself and walking away!

There's a scholarship available to do an LLM or a PhD at the school of law in UL. Closing date seems to be this Friday, judging from here. It's €12,000 for each of two years and fees paid as well. The main school of law webpage also lists it but doesn't include a closing date for the applications so I'm guessing this is also on Friday of this week.

    SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
A two year scholarship €12,000 p.a. with EU fees is available for an LLM by research or PhD in the School of Law
Applications are invited from all prospective postgraduate students, including current undergraduate students due to graduate in 2013.
Applicants must include ALL of the following
    1. A completed Postgraduate Studies Research Application Form (www.graduateschool.ul.ie).
    2. A research proposal (for guidelines see www.graduateschool.ul.ie).
    3. Original transcripts for all third level degrees.
    4. Two academic references.
    5. A 200 word statement outlining reasons for applying for a scholarship.

This is open to non-UL students as well, I'm guessing? The course director for the LLM programme is Sean Donlan, though Niamh Lenehan seems to be the contact point. I'm hoping to apply as funding is hard to come by these days. Might be of interest to some of you too. Has anyone here managed to get funding in this way and can offer any good advice?

Funding is very hard to get although the main worry would be it's only for 2 years: if you're doing a structured PhD it'll only cover 2 out of the 4 years although you could apply for research council funding afterwards, although keep in mind this is getting extremely competitive.

I applied for a Hardiman Research Scholarship from NUIG and will be starting a PhD in Law in September (€16k p.a plus fees). The main thing they seemed interested in was that I'd be able to complete it, given how many people think a PhD will be grand old fun and then drop out. There was an interview stage as well where they seemed interested in prior research experience and that sort of thing.
