Strange Garda Car

Earlier today I was driving along the motorway in the outer lane, in a line of traffic that was overtaking, and the car behind me pulled into the middle lane. The car behind him was straight away up behind me, I then noticed its lights were flashing and the was a siren. Now I know on first reading it sounds like I was in my own world and hadn't a breeze what was going on around me but thats why I'm here looking for more info.

The flashing lights were about the brightness of parking lights and were just white not blue and while I can't effectivly describe the volume of siren it was very quiet I hadn't noticed it at all when car was two cars behind me. I pulled into middle lane straight away. The cars then infront of the Garda car didn't seem to notice at all and it ended up pulling in front of me and then shooting up the motorway.

The other thing that seemed strange to me was the car was a 02 Toyota Camry. I'm just kinda curious was it actually a Garda car, would the guards have a car this old, would they have cars without blue lights.

I know they have undercover as well as the unmarked, would they have flashy white lights and a not very loud siren.

Cheers for any replies I'm kinda curious about it.

There are a few camrys still knocking about. Some will have the sirens that allow a loud and a quiet tone.

Thanks for the answers it struck me as a bit strange, especially the non-blueness of the lights and quietness of siren. It was on the M1 heading north just past the airport.

That's a 2001 camry from either kilmainham or clondalkin,I think it's a traffic car, It has a little camera on the boot, I'v seen it around a good few times usually with uniformed guards in it, very clean looking car for a 01.

Also i'v spotted a 2001 green Toyota corolla  going through ballyfermot last week

I like how the side blue is on the wheel arch. Looks well and would be easy to conceal on an unmarked.

    This too shall pass.

Has anyone seen a new 131 or 12 unmarked ?? Just curious any about ? Have they made them less obvious ?? Also why has the traffic battenbug sequence but ordinary Gards still have just a long slit ??

Sad to see all the vans go ! They have a lot more presence in crowded situations, them connects while practical are comical when you see to 6 footers patrolling in them ! !

I remember been stuck in traffic once and all off a sudden the silver pajero in front of me and behind me lit up blue. Had never seen jeeps like them used before and had they switched off the blue you couldn't pick them out as Garda vehicles

Saw an old enough Camry around Hazelhatch (Co. Dublin) a few weeks ago. Uniformed garda having a "chat" with a lad.

Have also seen an unmarked Camry (possibly the same one) at the Texaco in Lucan in the last few months (XV20 model or European equivalent)

Impressive reliability in a demanding environment I thought.

Not wanting to be a pedant but I don't believe that statement is wholly correct. There are certain sections of the force that drive non D reg vehicles.

Yeah, but given the nature of their work, they don't need to be discussed on a public forum.

My intention is not to derail this thread into the specifics of what jobs are completed by different elements of An Garda Siochana, my point was that not ALL Garda cars are registered in Dublin.
