hi lads just wondering what plugs any of ye that have or had an mr2 were using, i know the NGK or DENSO platinum plugs are highly recommmended but they're approx 16 euro a plug, which is quite expensive, would it be ok just use a standard NGK BPR6ES plug, it has the same length, gap and heat. and they're only around 2.50, the platinum plugs have a huge life span but if your servicing regularly would the standard plug not do the same job?? any advice is greatly appreciated.

    goss

Honestly - I'd follow recommendations. In case of engine's serious failure you'd spend more than those ~50 euro saved on cheaper spark plugs. ;)

Hey I changed my mr2 na there a while ago...on the fence on what to use and the iridium stuff is meant to be more resiliant then the platinum.

I got them from here: http://www.carsparkplugs.com/view-product.aspx?productid=2

BKR6EIX - NGK Iridium IX Spark Plug (6418) works out at £6.42 per plug ;)

I would stick to Denso spark plugs if you have a Toyota. The temptation may be there to go for cheaper plugs but always stick with the O.E as you won't encounter any further problems

While I won't dispute that Denso is the OE spec for the car, NGK is as good as any in the plugs world.

First hand experience...I've consulted my maintenance records and I installed NGK iridium plugs on Dec 20th 2011 @ 102,700 mls....Its now April 2013 and 113,000 mls on the clock and not a single issue ;)

Those Iridium plugs should be good for 60,000 mls!

well to be honest youd want to get morethan 10k out of a normal set of plugs, never mind iridium. :/

i used to always fit ngks, but over the last year iv moved to densos, and i find them a by far a better plug, they wear better, more evenly and dont wear as quick. but each to there own.

    what year is it?

to be honest lad, id go for the platnum if there whats listed, they last 4 times as long, but last better, stronger spark. just keep them gapped on services.
