Hi guys, car is due for testing next week and the drivers side electric window does not work, switch or motor problem, I dont have the time or money to get it fixed before the test. I had a look at the NCT "official video" as to what is checked in the test and there is no mention of windows being checked. Would anybody know if this is the case or would it cause a fail in the test?

Yep it'll fail, it's the only window they check.

Is it still a fail if the window can open but not very well ? For example, in my car the drivers window can only open about 3 cm at a time, you have to keep pressing the switch to open it.

    Manual http://www.ncts.ie/NCT%20Manual%20Revise%20May%202012.pdf
"6. Check that the driver’s window operating mechanism is functioning properly"
"10 Opening mechanism of driver’s window not operating."

You'll prob be ok but get some silicone lubricant in halfords and spray the window rubber to help the window slide.

Brought friend's megane to nct last week, and it passed with the very same fault.

Unfortunately that isn't the fault. Its something to do with the electronics as the window works fine when the car is switched off. Thanks for the advice anyway !

It will fail, you need to open driver window to be able to do hand gestures, like the ones they teach you in driving test.

Open the window and leave the car unlocked they won't put it back up to test but they will put it down as they need to reach in and out during the test. Fingers crossed its a sunny day and they won't notice .
