Windows 8 Upgrade Question.

I built my first PC a few years ago with fairly low end specs. Bought Windows 7 Home retail and then when there was the offer to upgrade to Windows 8 for €40 around Christmas I decided to try it out. I used the Windows 8 upgrade assistant and it installed no problem. I quite like it BTW!

Now I'm looking at starting a new build with ugraded specs and using existing parts like HDD and optical drive etc. My question is when it comes to installing the OS do I have to install Windows 7 first from my retail disc and then Windows 8? How do I upgrade back to Windows 8? I must have deleted my email receipt or never received one because I cant find any record of my upgrade purchase. I have used Belarc Advisor so I can see my Windows 8 key but I'm unsure how the whole process works. Thanks.

When you upgraded windows 7 you lost the right to use it again.

Because the windows 7 was retail and not pre-installed you can move the upgraded to windows 8 to the new build. This means the first PC can no longer have that copy of windows 7/8 on it.

You should be able to do a windows 8 install on the new build with the new key. You may have to ring up if you did the install less than 120 days ago.

Thanks for your reply. The only problem is I dont have a physical copy of Windows 8. I was hoping to get an SSD to install Windows 8 on. Is there anything I can do?
