Hi all im back again, i had my 2000 toyta corolla 1.4vvti stall briefly twice today.

Once between 3-4 gear and once doing about 55mph in 5th gear.
It was only for the briefest of time, literally like half a second.
It was like someone turned the car on and off really quick like a lightswitch.

Forgive the description, its bad i know, im thinking its maybe some kind of sensor??

My knowledge is very poor on cars, so any help would be appreciated, thanks!

get to a garage - if this happens while your overtaking a lorry you could have a bad day

Nothing to worry about to be honest - it's well known problem with an ECU unit in early facelift E11s and it can be ignored, as it's a kind of bug in software embedded in.

If you ignore it - nothing wrong will happen.

If you really can't live with that - go to dealer's garage, have few hundred of spare euros with you and let them reflash an ECU. :D

I hear ya, but i havent got the money to do this, i was wondering if any of the knowledgeable people on boards have any idea what it would be??
Any past experience of something similar or any guidance at all.
I checked air filter (its new) and hoses, no sign of any blockage or debris.

I recently started to put some injector cleaner into the tanks, its an old car, maybe that has somethin to do with it.
I used a millers oil product, and now im thinking maybe the fuel filter is now choked with gunk??
In saying that tho,i am not losing power and its not struggling at any of the lower gears or anything like that.

The problem happened so quick and was over in a flash, i nearly second guessed myself it happened at all.

    Anyone any ideas??

@joujoujou, My god man, you are sorting me out regularly!! The car itself is under warranty for another 2 months so maybe i would be as well getting on to them, would the warranty cover that? I would have to travel from galway to cork, but still be cheaper than paying a couple o hundred quid no?

sorry i didn't refresh page or something only seen it after i post

I doubt they'll sort that out under warranty, but give'em a call.

And again - if you ignore that - NOTHING wrong will happen, believe me - I have exactly the same since I bought my 'rolla 7 years ago. :P

there was a recall on ECU on post facelift 2000 Corolla's
I had one replaced on my 2000 Corolla 3dr hatchback

Check with Toyota Ireland, directly, have the chassis number of the car ready!

Spoke to the dealer there and he wasnt very helpful at all, trying to say its dirty petrol or water in the tank.
    neither is true IMO.

How often does it happen you joujou??

    Of course he's wrong. :)

Sometimes once a week, rarely 2-3 times a day. Once I found it's nothing serious - left it as it is.

AFAIK there was no recall regarding ECU - it just has been replaced under extended (5 years) warranty, only on owner's request.

Again thanks for the help, i really do appreciate it!!

If it wont be an issue then ill continue as is, and ill change the fuel filter just to feel like i did something constructive!!

Actually got mental quotes for a fuel filter.
    1st quote 50e
    2nd quote 33e
    Internet 7e

Its no wonder the country's fooked.

replaced in 2001 or early 2002

    (car was totaled in 2002)

my dealer called me and asked me to drop in the car to get it replaced.

I find it strange that Toyota would ignore such an issue in a new car but I do recall my sister rejecting a new corolla after 12 months because of this issue

Its the ECU resetting itself, It was replaced under warranty when they were new if the original owner complained but most didn't notice or bother.
We have one that does it occasionally.
