I want to install Ubuntu or something like that onto this. I have put it on a card and put it in it but I cant get it to boot up in Ubuntu.

It there some way of just clearing the Android OS from it and installing just the Linux Os. Probably from the language I'm using you'll know I haven't a bulls notion what I'm at. I can't even root a phone.

Must this thing be rooted too before I can do anything?
Do any of those Polish/Russian guys work on these in those "back ally" phone shops?!
Got this before I knew anything about Raspberry Pis and all that jazz!

I have no idea about that device, but it might be worth looking at something like UNetbootin. It is a friendly way to put a bootable version of Linux on USB sticks.

    That's for x86 computers only.

Afaik you can't replace the ROM with a Linux OS but you can load a distro onto an SD card. What version of Ubuntu are you using, and where did it come from? If it's a Live CD for a normal computer it will not work because they use totally different architectures.

OP assuming your stick is the same as this, a guide like this may help:

What are you looking to do with Linux on it.

Do you want to use it as a computer for browsing the net, general everyday computing or are you looking to use it as a media server with something like xbmc.

    Where are you based.

    Quick google search gives this:

Mainly browsing and maybe streaming live sports. Don't think Android supports apps for this. I really dont like the Android setup, even in phones. I use an ol 3Gs everyday.

cheers for the replys. I looked at some of those forums before and tried to do it a few months ago but gave up. I dunno what version of things I downloaded back then.

you could try yumi to install a linux distro to an SD card (It will wipe the card so be careful).

Its really easy to do so you have nothing to lose.

    Download YUMI:

Download Ubuntu or Knoppix or something like Damn Small Linux (DSL) and give it a shot
