Skoda Octavia mileage question

Alas, the time has come for me to replace my Octavia 1. I acknowledge that there are already posts here but I was hoping to get an answer in relation to Octavia's.

I'm looking at an Octavia 2 2006 to 2008 Diesel.
It's been along time since I purchased a car and when I did they were all new so I'm wondering what is high mileage on this type of model?
    A lot I see are from 85k to 170k.
Is this normal and if I was to get an Ambiente with for about €7.5k with 110miles on it in the 07, would that be a good deal?

Also, would there be a good petrol alternative in the Octavia range. It's economy I'm looking at as I am based in Sth Kildare commuting.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    K

The octavia diesels do handle mileage quite well anything around 120k miles or less wouldnt bother me provided the car is well minded and regularly serviced. My dad has a 2005 new model with 120k miles and it never misses a beat. He hadn't spent a penny on it since he got it 2 cv boots that's it. It's really all about how minded the car is and what kind of service history keep In mind the timming belt interval is roughly 60-70k miles on them. Also the dmf causes trouble but that's there main problem really.

Beware any diesel Octavia without a service history, lots of clocked ones going around

Is there any way to check if it has been a taxi? Any register anywhere that is checkable?

If it was registered as a taxi then a history check should show that it was previously registered as a PSV.

Physically I'd be checking for excessive wear on the steering wheel and seat belts, if it has a steering wheel cover fitted then remove it and check. Also check for holes in the dashboard where a meter might have been fitted. Also check the roof where the taxi sign might have been clipped on, very common for that area to have faded paint patch or scratch marks.
