Any buying advice for one of these? Wife is quite taken with them and with the arrival of the new baby we've found the 2dr Convertible just doesn't cut it :(

Have been eyeing this (<-- Click me) one out @ Beshoff. Anyone have any info on them from a reliability point of view? Anyone have any experience of the dealer besides ogling some of their other cars? It doesn't mention warranty at all but i'd be pushing for one if possible (not sure they're worth the paper they're written on though?) I could go the X5 route as well, I've not fully made up my mind yet.

2006 was their introduction year so Id check to make sure all recalls were done, havent heard any horror stories but Id suggest looking for an 07 one / possibly a l08 facelift model if possible.

on the X5 side, an 06 X5 was the end of the models run so most of them have a lot of extras on them and all the issues were worked out. Yet again no horror stories, both excellent machines.

Decent engine wise, if/when the swirl motor packs in its easily bodgeable. Not too gruff for a diesel, you won't see 30mpg unless on a long spin.

I quite like the look of the mercedes but I thought they were very troublesome? Maybe I got that wrong.

2005 and down apparently are aweful yokes so steering clear of them.

yeah, thats the older w163 shape, loads of electrical issues and injector problems. the w164 (2006 onwards) is a much better machine, both mechanically and aesthetically , I still wouldn't buy a year 1 model if you can get a later one it will have updated any parts that failed easily and the teething issues will be gone.

..I know a guy who bought a new 06 ML, then. Lovely motor, but was written off with gearbox problems (after water getting in). Uneconomic to repair, he was told..........

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I'd plump for an x5 if it was my money

A little high mileage but a 2 year warranty is not to be sniffed at...
