Looking at getting a bike and heard great things about these but from the specs can't tell if the white and red are spec'd identically, links are red, white

I have the Triban 3 Red as a "spare / winter" bike, it's a good bike. A friend of mine has it too for training and racing, he's happy with it. I think the difference is that the Triban 3 Red has a better fork (carbon) and drivetrain...

Yeah, that seems to be it - the 'Microshift' gears (vs Shimano on the Red) and an Alu fork (vs carbon on the red)

I'd never heard of Microshift gears before but they seem to be reputable enough...

From my (admittedly limited) knowledge, the carbon fork alone would be worth the extra 25 quid yeah? Would it also be a much better choice compared to this carrera virtuoso?

Why can't you tell? The website you linked actually tells you they are different through the medium of legible english.

Not a much better choice. You are comparing different bikes / specs. The Carrera Virtuoso should be compared to the Triban 5 and in this case, Triban 5 is better as it has a carbon fork.
Decathlon warranty is good: 5 years for frame and 2 years for parts. Don't know about Halfords though...

I couldn't be sure because the way the specs are listed isn't consistent between both bikes, e.g. for the fork
    Red: carbon with aluminium dropout
White: curved fork, 1"1/8 aheadset pivot, filters road vibrations and very secure on impact. weight 900 grams

Since the 'white' doesn't explicitly mention the materials used I wasn't sure if these differing sentences could be describing the same fork.
