Hi. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to learn to play Chess. Please dont say from a book. I tried that and just felt overwhelmed taking in all the info in print. Is there any websites or clubs that actually teach you the basics and how to play. I live in Swords.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

there are lots of websites about chess - for example, there are some basic videos here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC4E9641B841574EA

There is a list of chess clubs here in Ireland here: http://www.icu.ie/clubs/list.php

I'm guessing you know how to move the pieces already?

Searchable videos, over 3000 of them.

All sorts of stuff, from tournaments to tutorials to entertaining reviews of classic games new and old. Really helped me improve my game, but you need to put in the time to absorb the stuff.

Try playing online chess, it’s anonymous so losing doesn’t hurt too much. Chesscube is a good free playing site, sign up and play a few games there and you’ll soon find your level.
Do you already know how the pieces move? If so, head over to Chesscube and take it from there.

Let us know how you get on.

Correspondence chess on chess.com is really good. You can play against a stranger and take time to consider your options

Chess.com has lots of players, from beginners to masters.

Plenty of friendly people, ignore the others.

I suggest you play the "online" game rather than "live" as you have a lot more time to play each move.

If you do decide to go on chess.com, pm me here and let me know your chess.com username. And I will try and give you a few pointers.

Just have to keep playing people.
That is once you know how the pieces move and their value.

Practice like any other game. That's what it boils down too.
