Have this stuck in motors as well,

Is it normal for a 2002 Hiace diff to have the bearings go ? it's whining like a good thing, yes there's oil in it and the oil looks clean. it only has 138,000miles on it. I though these things went on forever :(:(.

its unusual for a hiace diff to give trouble, are ya sure its not a wheel bearing or something else?

I had a rear hiace diff bite the dust years ago
Horrible humming noise im nearly sure it was most noticable at speed when you take foot off trottle. While its not the most common problem it does happen.

You probably pick up a axle in breakers cheap enough.

The newer style Hiace diff is an animal of a diff-erent colour to the old '90's Hiace back axels. It's a pretty skimpy affair and not unknown to go south.

The good old '90s Hiaces were animals to wear miles. I drive a Hiace for work, love it actually for its toughness, its my eleventy-second Hiace to have, this ones a 97 with only 79k miles done(old lad had it). But I also had early '90s models and while they were pug ugly, they were as tough as old boots. Hiace is still the second toughest van out there though. The Mitsi L400 is a better van in every way, very small though. L400 is also the fastest van on the road, especially if the pump is turned up a touch. And no, a Sprinter is not faster.

Wheel bearings Ok, don't ask how i know this !

So its off to the scrap yard with me so, to root one out with mega milage on it,
and here was me thinking with only 138,000miles on it i was set for 4-5 years.

Might be more cost effective to buy the bearing, pull the shaft and replace it.nat least youll know what you have.
