Last year I started paying for my wife's health insurance and by my understanding I can claim 20% of this back against tax.

I have the total amount paid for the year and access to my PAYE any time account but I am unsure how I would go about submitting this to the tax office.

Any help or direction would be greatly received.

Some one at work showed me how to do it, all sorted.

Health insurance premiums are taxed at source so there is no relief further relief available to individuals (unless it is a policy provided by your employer and you are claiming back the relief on their gross contribution)

What this means in plain terms is that when you pay your VHI/other insurer premium, the actual cost is 20% more than you pay, the insurer takes the tax off your charge and you pay the reduced premium.

Make sure you are not claiming twice by putting it in as a medical expenses claim
