Durano tyres best bet?

Thinking of getting either a carrera virtuoso or btwin triban 3 so I can commute to work ( ~15km each way). I keep reading that upgrading tyres is a good idea so what would serve me best as puncture resistant but also wouldn't make the bike a tank? Durano? Durano Plus? Gatorskins? Continental 4000s? Also should I be looking at 23c, 25c or 28c? Don't know anything really about the differences so any help appreciated!

I've used Durano pluses for commuting for a few years now, and whilst they are not bullet proof (like Marathon pluses are), I feel they are a good compromise. Grip in the wet is good, but they do tend to wear quite quickly (again, compared to marathons) - I think I got about six months out of the rear last time (at about 1000 km per month).

Any negatives with the Marathon pluses as compared to the Dunaro pluses? Or are they a better choice all around?

25s for commuting as well. More grip and more comfort for a slight weight and resistance penalty.

Durano pluses are lighter than Marathon pluses, at the expense of some puncture protection. They're heavier than regular Durananos but more puncture resistant. I use 25mm Durano plus on my road bike, and 32mm Marathon Supreme (the lightest of the Marathons) on my hack / commuter, and haven't had a puncture on either for 18 months. Great tyres, but not the cheapest option.
