Trapping in an urban area under the noses of the public will cause you all sorts of problems. You may be acting legally but that won't stop calls to the Gardai, the DSPCA, NPWS etc etc. It may be more trouble than it is worth.

The one thing in my favour is i'm on the top floor, so i ran a bit of a sheet around the balcony nobody would be able to see anyting at all, and birds would still be able to see down from the roofs and eve guts that they perch on.

Think i'll chance it for a week anyway, and see what happens.

I agree with Half-Cocked it's the one's that think there a lovely bird will ring up complaining they but don't know the damage there doing to other wildlife, my advice if you can trap them with out anyone seeing that would be great,I just caught another 2 about an hour ago in a Larsan trap I have 3 of them on the go at the moment.

Good on you best of luck.;)

No law is being broken so I wouldn't be concerned about such things - hunters/shooters are well used to dealing with all sorts of cranks:D;) I have trapped magpies in urban settings over the years with little or no problems. The only worry I would have would be vandalism of the trap. However this can be avoided by placing it in a discrete area where the public do not have access.

PS: I see the OP lives on the top floor of the block - in that case he should have no real problems so:)

like the other lads have said you are not breaking the law,i have one set on top of my garage, one time i did not have a live call bird in so i put a plastic decoy in to see if that would work till i could get a live one, well 2 weeks went by forgot about it being in,till one day 2 women at the door one rspca and environmental health women, they said we have had a report saying your not feeding a magpie you have in your trap,i said when you come into the back just remember how stupid your going to feel, well they came through rspca women fell about laughing at the decoy hung by nylon swinging about, the enviro women was not happy, and i said someone is wasting your time and off they went, but there is always someone watching what your doing, they called dogooders, more is the pity.
