Hey guys i have started walking about 5 miles a day for the past 3 weeks mainly as a diet and to generally get fitter and lose weight. i am quite happy with how its all going now. i am looking into running now. do ye think it is a good idea or would i be best to wait a while?

Any ideas on how i many miles i should start to run? as i don't want to injure my myself:o i am mainly walking walking now along a canel line route.but also about 2 miles of this would be gravel road. any help would be great as you can see from my post i am a complete newbie thanks:D

Have a quick search for Couch to 5km, this is the program I followed to get me running, builds you up slowly using walk breaks between run segments. It has great sucess rates! Good luck

I would second couch to 5k app or program. Will get u up to running five km sensibly. I did it last year and found it brilliant.

As above, couch to 5k all the way.

I went from 34 years of inactivity to 5k and now I'm doing 50k every week and doing half marathons for fun and my first marathon this year.

OP, coach to 5km is the way to go,

Follow the training plan and follow the advise about how to run {ie: if you can't talk you are running too fast).
Coach to 5k works very well if you follow it,

I went from not being able to run for more then 90sec non-stop in 2010 to running my 8th event of a marathon distance or longer in two weeks time. So I'm living proof :)

I've just started a Couch to 5K program, it's pretty intense but still makes running possible for newbies such as myself. I can't stand walking as I find it boring but running is definitely a good way to go. I ran a few times last year without a Couch to 5K plan and it was brutal, it's much better having the walk/run intervals.

Couch to 5k is way to go. Started last year progressed to 10ks and I'm hoping to run half marathon this year. It gets very addictive!!!
