Sorry I cant answer your question about a steam mop. However, I have approximately 60 metres of Marble flooring and can not believe the maintenance involved. It cost me 600 the first time to get it done and 400 the second, which was a quicker job, and not near as good. Everywhere I looked it said, leave it to the professionals, takes year of practice etc etc. I ignored it, and went and bought a low speed floor polisher second hand on done deal, some klindex pads, hair pads and polishing powder. First go was a learning curve, but the second go I have them perfect and now they are always gleaming. Total cost was about €500 and should last me a long time hopefully.

You can hire a floor buffer with attachments designed for marble polishing. You'll also need to buy some marble restorer/polisher from any good tile shop and they should have a reliable marble Sealer. Depending on the amount of traffic the floor gets, you should only have to buff/polish and seal your floor every 2-3yrs.

Will any hire have the attachments ?

If they hire the industrial buffers they should have all of the attachments. Most Hotels have marble or porcelain in their lobbies, and their cleaning staff use buffers to maintain them. I'd try the larger Hire companies first.

Half that if you have kids like me :P

I will also say that over time it slowly but definitely deteriorates. So one month after getting it done does not look the same as 6 months. If you have kids after 18 months IMO it gets so far removed from just after a polish. Which is the beauty of doing it yourself, it can always look very well. Having said that, 2-3 years, with the Marble we got, if I left it that long, it would look like pure crap!

Umm, I tried half a dozen with little success. Sure they will hire you a buffer, but you need a low speed one 'according to the experts'. All the ones I came across for hire only had 400 or higher speed buffers, which are not suitable. Some didn't even know the speeds of their buffers.

I paid €60 for a 5KG tub of Klindex KP85. From memory, most prices were €80/€90. But I'm sure there are alternatives. One guy tried to sell me a 200gram tub for €50!
I found Donedeal pretty good for lads that seemed to want to offload things as work had tried up. I nearly bought a buffer from a guy and he was throwing in the polishing powder with it, cause he no longer needed it.

sorry for the late reply but I bought a steam mop in Argos and was hoping it would be good on the marble floor we have in the kitchen but I am disappointed in the result. The floor wasn't in good condition from the start and the grouting which is recessed and some of the veins in the marble have dirt in them which it doesn't remove. only solution is a nail brush on your knees. If I ever splash out on getting them professionally polished I'd hope it would keep them clean from then on but in my opinion it certainly isn't the "magic" device that the TV advertisements portray them as.
