hi looking for someone who might know more to help me.

The fridge freezer has been making noise for weeks and finally cut out today.

The Food is not cooling or freezing. Now theres a smell when you open the fridge door. The smell is a mix of burning and chemicals. It is strong enough and unpleasant though not extremely strong. It goes when the fridge is closed.

Looking for help from anyone who knows about fridges.

    Is the smell dangerous?
    Can the fridge be fixed?
Is it expensive to get it fixed?

    Thanks for any advice offered.

    Moved from Electrical forum.

OP, your fridge is leaking refridgerant gas. Most likely it will mean replacing the unit.

Thanks for getting back to me 2011. Is it dangerous to breathe in those fumes? Didnt like the sound of breathig in ammonia etc.

Only bought the fridge new off cash and carry kitchens five years ago and its out of guarantee, will ring them now and see if they can help in any way. Hope im mistaken but when you say "unit" do you mean replace the fridge freezer and buy a new one..
