Any cars for sale in a dealer/garage for 2.5k will generally be pretty poor too. And warranty you get on a motor of that value will be pretty meaningless and worthless.

Spend time finding a good second hand car and you will find one.

What are you looking for in a car? A 1.25 fiesta is a good shout, and so to is a 1.4 focus.

You are looking for your first car so I presume it will be your first insurance too.I would advise you to price insurance on different cars before you buy anything.Keep under 1.4 as this is the cheapest for insurance purposes. As Alanstrainor said above spend time looking and the right car will pop up.Buy privately you will get more for your money and get someone to check it out before you buy it.

Just buy a more reliable car if you are that worried. Have you tried a 1.4/6 ford focus only about 100 euro difference in insurance and from experience a well looked after 1.6 will go well over 160,000 miles they also have a 4 star euroncap result

I'm a learner - My car (first car) is a 1.4 Ford Focus. I paid €950 for it, and then spent about €500 bringing it up to scratch (car is fine mechanically but was a bit rough cosmetically). So for €1,500 i had a car under me. For about €3,500 I had a car (with valid NCT), tax, insurance and a full tank of petrol to get me started out.

Now admittedly, I do plan to get rid of the car for something a bit nicer whenever I pass the test (fingers crossed for first time but I'll see how I get on). For €2,500 I'm not sure how you're having such great difficulty finding a car. Although if I were you I'd bring your budget down by €500 and put it away as 'post-car money' for any issues you discover with it after purchasing.
