All the tv player apps work easy via Apple TV AirPlay. Much better than cables.

Sort of regret paying €30 for the apple HDMI cable thought it would of worked better so don't really like the prospect of shelling out again on an Apple TV is the little box worth it?

TV does have a zoom function but all that does is stretch the picture not really ideal.
