Going to the states next week, and the wifi charges in my hotel are $11.95 per device per day, so I was planning on just paying it on my laptop and somehow sharing the signal with my iphone?

Is there such a way to do it?

You may be able to do it, by going in to system prefs-sharing and turn on Internet sharing. I think this only works if the laptop is using Ethernet rather than wifi.

Bring an airport express if you have one. Doubles as a USB charger aswell. Needs ethernet.

You cannot use internet sharing to share a connection from wifi to wifi.. Unless you connect the macbook by Ethernet in the Hotel and then you can share internet by Wifi..Go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet sharing to set this up :)

Creating a WIFI connection from your mac is pretty simple. Simply plug in the ethernet cable, then go to "System Preference" -> Sharing. From here go to the "Internet Sharing" option and click on the "Wifi options" if you would like to change the name or channel of the WIFI and also create a password for it. Once done just check the box beside "Internet Sharing". Simple as that :)

How does that possibly share a Wifi connection to an iPhone?

well your mac creates a wifi access point from your cabled internet connection, so to your iPhone it will look like it is just another wifi connection.

Assuming that wifi will be the only way of connecting your laptop to the hotel could you share to the phone via Bluetooth?

Yes it is possible, However it is very slow. So here is how to do it, first pair your phone via bluetooth to your Mac. Then go to "System Preference" -> Sharing, Under the Internet Sharing menu, select Bluetooth PAN. When done activate the internet sharing option. Simple as that.
